“Listen”
This is my last 1 of 2 paintings on fabric series for 2018.In this artwork, the composed subject invites the viewer to ponder together with him the quiet serenity of life. As one melts into his cloudless gaze, the placid blue hues melt into each other against a rich, pulsating backdrop of traditional batik fabric, as if it were an endless river running, unchanging in its quiet chaos, and each moment fleeting, like the coming and going of times.

Artist Profile

Born: 1964

Hometown: Singapore

Lives and Works: Singapore

As a contemporary artist based in Singapore, Rashid renders his own visual and conceptual interpretations gleaned from observations of everyday life and modern culture.

Taking inspiration from Michelangelo, Carravagio, Pablo Picasso and Jeff Koons, Rashid absorbs everything that surrounds him. The nature of his work varies from time to time and is mostly rendered on canvas, paper and fabric.

Rashid works from his studio at home, often at odd hours while trying to capture the rush of blood to his head. To him, painting is like a dream, something that can be imagined in front of you. He believes that every house should have an art piece, because every house contains a dream.
