Artist Statement
Man has lost his sense of place in this world of chaos, slowly crumbling with the advent of modernity and change.
This painting explores the deep desire for revolution and individuality within the constructs of society, where the man is dressed in a suit, prim and proper and yet ever the jester, as Guy Fawkes mask poses as a symbol of rebellion. And the skull that lurks behind the second skin of the self reflects a burgeoning fear and horror that lies beneath it — a paradox that exemplifies the
uncertainty of modern living.

Artist Profile
Born: 1964
Hometown: Singapore
Based in: Singapore
As a contemporary artist based in Singapore, Rashid renders his own visual and conceptual interpretations gleaned from observations of everyday life and modern culture.
Taking inspiration from Michelangelo, Carravagio, Pablo Picasso and Jeff Koons, Rashid absorbs everything that surrounds him. The nature of his work varies from time to time and is mostly rendered on canvas, paper and fabric.
Rashid works from his studio at home, often at odd hours while trying to capture the rush of blood to his head. To him, painting is like a dream, something that can be imagined in front of you. He believes that every house should have an art piece, because every house contains a dream.
