I didn't intend for this series to be Covid inspired. But I decided to call this series of drawings, which I've been doing since late spring, the "Covid Flowers Series" when I saw that my mark-marking had become more expressionistic, with stabs and jabs of the pen on the paper, and many layers of marker, pen and liquid paper. Maybe they are a result of frustration at the new reality the world is in, plus my anger over the lack of leadership or support for people in the US or anywhere else from my elected officials. These are a combination of old and new: I have been using Liquid Paper (aka White Out) as a tonal and textural component for some years, which has continued with the Covid Flowers. Balancing the assertive marks are the colors of spring and summer. I love working in color and despite these "times" I can't give it up.
