Artist Statement
"Mobile" is part of a series I started after the start of the pandemic. It is on high-quality Arches printmaking paper, a surface I've loved using over the years as a printmaker and painter. "Mobile" is in ink, acrylic, and collage in a color palette of oranges, reds, and yellows For this series, I started drawing the circle and cell-like shapes that I've been drawing and painting since about 2011, here in a looser style that allows forms to move into and meld with others. In this series I've worked to relinquish control over the imagery; where imagery goes and how it is resolved. I am also working with a new mark-making took, a calligraphy pen, varying the nibs and mixing color on the paper. As always in my work, I use collaged elements to create texture and depth. Colllage is an essential parts of my work, intensifying and invigorating the space.
