About the art
"Starry Night" is part of a new series that I was inspired to start after Covid-19 quarantine had been in place for a couple of months. I was running out of some of the colors of ink I'd been using, and all I had left were red and orange, colors I hadn't used for years. Without the ability to go to the art store I decided to use them. I also started drawing the circle and cell-like shapes I have been drawing and painting for many years in a looser style, allowing forms to move into and meld with others. The colors and shapes felt great together, so I've kept going while trying to let go of control over the imagery - where it goes and what it does. I am very happy with the results, including with "Starry Night," which has received very positive feedback regarding the delicacy of it's intricate shapes and it's use of negative space to ignite the space. Collage elements are an essential part of the piece, intensifying and invigorating the space. Since starting the series I have added colors and have expanded collaged elements, creating fantastical imagined spaces.
