Artist Statement
Remi Delaplace has been reflecting on the perception of space for several years.
The Dance and Painting relationships have a common origin in the theatre. The representation, the scene, the perspective, the frame...
In this painting, Rémi Delaplace started from the idea, in dance contact improvisation, of touching and being touched: we are as much touched by the ground as we touch floor. Here the material used is sheets mounted on canvas stretched on a frame. Rémi Delaplace is interested in the process of creation: in what appears, tears, bumps, traces are all materials that arise from improvised contact. This pictorial research is linked to phenomenology: the study of what appears... traces, mirrors are the signs.
"My practice of painting is intimately linked to the practice of dance improvisation".
