Artist Statement

The Chac Mool Ether symbolically is a door to another dimension, an invitation to pass to the subtle and ethereal aspect of our being. In Mesoamerica throughout the cultural diversity of this territory, the Chac Mool was an icon, an essential presence in any ceremonial center, and in this vast and amazing artistic expression of these regions, we can say that in the field of life human, the afterlife was always considered, the spiritual life that was part of our traditions and customs that were embodied in artistic and/or religious objects. In these towns with thirty centuries of high culture, there was a close communion with nature, mother earth, death, and resurrection linked by profound processes of transformation. It is not my intention to reproduce the wonderful carvings of the Chac Mool but to reinterpret it from my own processes as a woman, artist, and being of this time. Contemporaneity places us in an appointment with ourselves to resignify the symbols of the feminine aspect that we all carry inside, in an invitation to live ourselves in connection with this precious human life on this unique and irreplaceable planet Earth. That is why, instead of a heart in the receptacle of the Chac Mool, there is our planet, fragile as glass.
