Artist Statement
This work is from the ongoing series "a study of identity". This series depicts portraits of Japanese immigrants / Japanese Americans in the US during WWII.

Based in: Tokyo
RYOICHI NAKAMURA (b.1982) moved to Berlin in 2003 (voluntarily dropped out of Tokyo Zokei University) and worked as an artist from 2004-2008. Since returning to Japan, he has been based in Tokyo, and spent one year (2015-2016) in the US after receiving a grant from the Pola Art Foundation. Recent exhibitions in Japan include the 17th Exhibition of the Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art, solo exhibitions at KOKI ARTS (Tokyo), Gallery Tsubaki (Tokyo), EUREKA (Fukuoka), and LIXIL GALLERY (Tokyo).
