Artist Statement
'The Bliss of the Comfort Zone' is about those moments of indulgence in the safe, familiar, and the reliable; the times when we choose not to challenge the status quo in favour of our own safe space. The temptation to choose routine can be hard to resist; sometimes, we'd benefit from a bit of unpredictability. But sometimes, it's just the right thing and it can be ever so soothing.
Enjoy the moment while it lasts.
I think of my collages more as drawings because that’s how they begin. I draw with oil sticks, pastels and pencils on large sheets and then cut them down into various shapes which I recombine into new colour compositions. I don’t try to ‘make’ the shapes, but rather just start cutting and see what happens. The images are intuitive; they reflect my emotions and desires or are inspired by something in my surroundings.
