Artist Statement

IconCaretDown

Abstraction is a language in and of itself. Through using a variety of abstract painting techniques, I create a narrative composed of shapes, colours and textures through which to communicate with the world. I’m inspired by the endless potentiality of creative form and expression. Creative energy is continually coursing through my body. I don’t have to produce it, it simply flows through me.

I believe that abstract art serves a larger purpose for the wellbeing of the individual and society. Through viewing abstract forms the viewer is encouraged to grasp the painting first with their emotions. The goal of my work is to facilitate an opportunity for the viewer to connect with a deeper part of themselves; to remember who they are and who they want to become.

Artist Profile

Born: 1984

Hometown: Toronto

Based in: Toronto

Sarah Rutledge is a self-taught contemporary abstract artist from Ontario, Canada and resides just outside of Toronto. Although Sarah always dabbled in the creative arts, it wasn’t until 2018 that she invested all her energy and passion into abstract painting. An intuitive and contemplative thinker, Sarah always discerned her immense capacity to express herself through painting and that intuitive nature is expressed through her free flowing works.

Sarah believes that abstract art serves a larger purpose for the wellbeing of individuals and society. Through viewing abstract forms the viewer is encouraged to grasp the painting first with their emotions.

The goal of Rutledge’s work is to create an experience for the viewer to connect with a deeper part of themselves; to remember who they are and who they want to become.
