Artist Statement
A central theme within Sean Wang's painting is the transcendence of space; using a sculptural approach to his art practice, Wang applies the relationship of adding and subtracting elements to create the imagery and objects within his work. The canvas itself and his creative materials, are transformed from ready-made painting mediums into an imagined universe. The infinite dimensions of the universe contrasts against the limitations of our daily lives, which forms the reoccurring motif within Wang’s work.

Artist Profile
Born: 1979
Hometown: Taipei
Based in: Taipei
Born in 1979 in Taipei, Sean Wang is a young Taiwanese artist who has held multiple solo exhibitions throughout Taiwan and has participated in group exhibitions in Taiwan and China.
Sean Wang is interested in the concept of space, or the co-existence between minute details and the vast expanse. In reality artifacts and nature coexist in a constantly developing world, changing our perceptions of nature and our environment.
Wang explores the notion of materiality through painting and the written word. His recent works focus on interpreting objects through the use of pigment and subject, particularly the treatment of fragmentation, such as in his brushwork of the sea, or the scattered particles of the stars; echoing the fragmentation of the contemporary world, where meaning cannot be determined by a single value.
