Artist Statement

This figurative sculpture has been created from one whole 12" vinyl music record and mounted upon a custom, hand formed acrylic base: Pink perspex semi-circle, yellow perspex circle and metal rods. The liquid-like figure has been created using various heat sources, with the base referencing Constructivism. Fine art practice contrasts with modern materials.

Each figurative, contemporary sculpture from the "REmuse" series is sculpted from one whole vinyl record, with nothing added and nothing removed from the original material - function becomes form. The sculptures are caught in states of movement, dance and musing. Function becomes form.

Artist Profile

Hometown: Dunbar, Scotland

Based in: Dunbar, Scotland

Sculptures created from whole vinyl music records... nothing added and nothing removed from the original material. The abstract, figurative forms are organic in their conception, with the vinyl having a life of its own upon heating. I pair the final sculptures with modern, geometric materials such as perspex and acrylic - the hard solids contrasting with the solidified, liquid lava appearance of the vinyl. The figures recline, dance and become caught in a movement that was previously evoked from the playing of the records themselves.
