Artist Statement
Title: LIMBO
Series: DEPARTURE
During a stay in Sicily and a walk along the harbor, rolled up, carelessly thrown together ropes and nets caught Sibylle Werkmeister's attention and resulted in new interesting shapes and lines in her eyes. They triggered the line's resumption in her works after it had almost completely disappeared in the series "SQUARES". This period coincides with Werkmeister's decision to give up the Art School direction after 22 years, leave Germany and move to Spain. The new creative phase is characterized by personal change with uncertainty and anxiety, reflected in the delicate, fragile lines. The line again becomes Werkmeister's constant, a rhythmic up and down, like a tight, dense curve of life. It dissolves, comes back, and mixes with delicate hues.
ABOUT
Sibylle Werkmeister is an experienced painter and sculptor, born in 1952 in Weinheim, Germany. Her work has been exhibited in numerous museums, private and public collections in countries such as the US, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Germany.
Driven to become an artist by the urge to let her spirit run free and express her vision of the world around her, she decided to study Fine Art in Santiago, Chile, and became a master student of the famous Prof. Raul Bustamante. She worked as an independent artist in Barcelona, Spain, and later founded and ran the renowned art school "Freie Kunstakademie" in Überlingen, Germany. These days Werkmeister devotes herself entirely to her own art and lives and works in Cervera del Maestre, Spain.
Working spontaneously, her large-scale paintings, intimate portraits, early and current works are always subject to the play with line, shape, and color, never following a consistent and systematic stylistic pattern. Space becomes a suspect but is only an illusion. People, architecture, lines, and colors are reduced to the essential and find themselves in a painterly movement, which in its essence becomes a new abstract reality. Ultimately, Werkmeister`s aesthetic, abstract compositions invite the viewer to pause and go within.

INSPIRATION BY SOUTH AMERICA
The German artist Sibylle Werkmeister was born in 1952 in Baden Württemberg and later lived in South America. She studied art in Santiago/Chile and became a master student of the famous Chilean artist Prof. Raul Bustamante. The seven years in South America during the Pinochet-Military-Regime, where many artists were persecuted, shaped her. The continent of Pablo Neruda and Diego Rivera had a great emotional influence on all her artistic work. Neruda's poems, Rivera's large wall paintings, and the vibrant and rich South American culture provided Werkmeister with creative inspiration for the use of color.
THE EVOLUTION OF HER STYLE
In the years since choosing her creative path, Sibylle Werkmeister worked as an emerging independent artist in Chile, Spain, and Germany. She worked transcends cultural boundaries and explored a wide range of different materials, techniques, and styles.
Her paintings have slowly developed over the years, from figurative to abstraction. People, architecture, nature, lines, and colors are reduced to the essentials and find themselves in a painterly movement, which in its essence becomes a new abstract reality. Her aesthetic, abstract compositions invite the viewer to pause and go within.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
Sibylle Werkmeister has regularly exhibited her works since 1988 in numerous solo and group exhibitions, represented in museums, private collections, and public institutes in the USA, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Spain, Switzerland, and Germany.
