About the art
Artist statement
It took three attempts to capture this particular feeling of intensity. In the first attempt two litres of paint was thrown with a broom for 10 minutes, however this left the whole tarpaulin looking like a black mess. After rewatching the video, it was noticed that at about six strokes the piece was balanced with dark and light space. With this in mind, for the next attempt, two litres was thrown directly from six bottles in 15 seconds, this was balanced in terms of light and dark, but the form of the lines were too thick and melted together, it needed less paint in order for the strokes to be clear. Along with this, throwing with bottles was less physically satisfying than throwing with the broom. For attempt three, a litre of paint was used, six hits thrown with a broom in about 10 seconds.
