Artist Statement

IconCaretDown

"I remember feeling like a bear dipping his hand into a pot of honey as I plunged my fist into the 20 litre paint bucket, pulling out bottle after bottle, just going and going, losing my mind more with each scoop." What was supposed to be the first colourful piece since finishing the exploration into blue for a year, was initially found to be dissatisfying. The artist then threw litres of white paint until he was satisfied.

Hometown: Melbourne

Based in: Berlin

Simon Findlay’s practice based approach to painting and performance reflects his focus on colour and intense physicality.

He has thrown rocks in a snow storm whilst wearing only short shorts, painted using only blue for a year, used brooms to make paintings, ripped canvases apart to then staple them back together, thrown paint inside a transparent cube with accompanying musicians, performs live techno/performance art music, and builds immersive art experiences.

He is based in Berlin, Germany since 2016. Prior to this he was in Melbourne, Australia where he threw live music events, toured in bands and studied science/psychology.
