Artist Statement
This work is inspired by Voynich Manuscript, a mysterious illustrated and handwritten codex dated back to early Renaissance. Besides texts which have not been fully deciphered by cryptographers and codebreakers, the manuscript consists of balneological and astrological drawings, as well as the drawings of mythical plants, animals and nude figures.
Having great interest in folklores and mythology, Siund was fascinated when he learnt about Voynich Manuscript. In this painting, six women are seemingly having good time in the garden - smelling flowers, picking fruits and observing from a microscope, denoting a quiet and pleasant moment of learning while enjoying simplest things in life. Set against earthy tone background, a sense of mystique pervades. The artist takes reverence in the unknown — and upon recognising that man shall keep an hungry mind for more knowledge, we could still find joy in things we yet to understand.

Based in: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Siund Tan graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design from Curtin University of Technology, Australia. His preferred medium is oil. He is the Winner of the “Malaysian Emerging Artist Award” (Malaysia, 2011) as well as “Finalist” in the Da Dun FIne Arts Exhibition of Taichung City (Taiwan, 2011) Fables, folklores, mysteries, adventures, events, history, and stories became larger than live to those who affixed their gaze onto that little box one has at home. Since young, Siund is one such individual who is much affected by it. The sight and sounds on the television screen and the radio are what fascinates him as he allow his imagination to soar. As he grew older, these embedded imageries consistently replays and conjured a deep influence on him. Locked inside his little grey cells, he managed to capture specific moments of those glorious images and allowed them to be replayed as narratives onto his canvasses. Elements of nostalgia are certainly his adventure and dominates his works.
