Artist Statement
"The constant use of plastic is tampering with the environment. Today our magnificent surroundings are covered by plastic all around. These human made plastics find their way to the drains and eventually travel through the rivers and finally to the ocean. Hence the water around us, on which we survive, is getting severely contaminated. From land animals to the living beings under water, all are getting drastically affected due to plastic pollution.
The artist has depicted this phenomenon through this painting where the body of a bird is covered in plastic which will ultimately lead to its death. We as a society have to be more conscious when using plastic. If we don't take the necessary measures to control plastic pollution then soon mother nature will give up and this beautiful world will meet its nemesis.

Artist Profile

Tapas Das is an Indian contemporary artist from Kolkata. Art is a language through which he communicates his state of mind to his viewers. Simple forms and objects play prominent roles in his paintings, enunciating the simplicity that persists within him. As an avid nature lover, many of his paintings have birds and mammals as central objects. Additionally, various natural objects are spread out on the canvas as metaphors implicating the freedom that the artist desires for and cherishes.
Indian painting styles have had a great impact on Tapas Das’s work. The impression of a vintage car or that of an antique telephone on his canvas is the reflection of his nostalgia. His effort is to rejuvenate the lost glory of the past. The soft pastel shades bring a subtleness in his paintings which promises to usher in a sense of calm among the viewers.
