Artist Statement
Wheel thrown Ceramic functional sculpture , cut and altered to make a spiral-pattern functional vessel. The exterior created by layering underglazes, then sanding the surface to reveal strata of color underneath. This low, wide shape is inspired by Ikebana, the art of flower arranging. Many japan-influenced potters have adopted the name of the art form for the pot itself.
