Artist Statement
The space between abstract and non-abstract, physical and non-physical or conscious and unconscious world. The human creates this gate between the world of two by experiencing our life. There is a key of the meaning of our life. What is human being and how to be enlightened. The intertwining white lines recall memories and deepen the mystery, they travel far as thoughts live. We are what our thoughts have made us. Emotions pass, beauty remains. Sometimes we just have to let the sorrow percolate for a while.
The title ‘KoRo’ (a Japanese neologism meaning ‘Personal Filter’) reflects how each individual perceives things differently as they continue to grow. Our minds filter all external stimuli and adapt elements from the exterior by fusing them with preexisting ‘KoSo’ (or ‘Personal Experiences’) to form new ones.
Three dimensional lines are thin thread carefully painted over after. These threads are wrapped the canvas from back to front continuously. Uneven texture created by gesso, cotton fabric. Many layers of gesso and paint create delusional effect.
