In “Meet the Merchants” Umi want to “spark” ideas in the context of modernized issues. These artworks refer to ideas and issues in the rise of consumer culture. Consumerism is one of the strongest forces affecting our lives in the modern world. Consumption have a key role in the construction of our identity and driven by endless desire that triggers identity crises. Trying to fit into this consumer culture makes individuals lose the sense of their own identities, personalities and culture.
