Artist Statement
The Earth has been in constant flux for millennia. The tectonic plates below our feet move and shake, it is an unstoppable force and we have not choice but to go along for the ride. The transformation of the landscape is evident in the rivers that flow and have carved great canyons or earthquakes so powerful that earth rose from the sea.
For The evidential testimony of time the physical artwork is as important at the imagery itself. The idea for a constructed photographic work was sparked by the additivity principle; where the sum of the of a bisected shape, rearranged, will result in the same area total.
In this rational, this work can be seen as a visual metaphor for the malleable and changing landscape, but that it is a force that is always constant.
This work has been shortlisted for the 2017 Fishers Ghost Art Award, Contemporary category.
This artwork comes framed, with the artwork built into the structure of the external frame. The photograph is face mounted onto perspex and assembled as four individual pieces floated within the frame.
The dimensions of the artwork are 42xm (h) x 33cm (w) x 4cm (d) and is calculated from the external edges of the frame.

Through photography and sculpture, my work is focused on the built and natural landscapes in which humans occupy and interact. Giving specific attention to the complex ecological systems and the ancestral theorem that guide our understanding of them. It is by looking at the exploration of the human experience of the post-contemporary landscape, with specific investigations into interaction and spatiality.
By creating sculptural photographic works, I aim to provide an alternative direction in which to engage with the photographic format and materiality for both maker and observer, whilst utilising the architectural space of the gallery.
Within these spheres, my practice gives specific attention to two key areas – complex ecological systems and the ancestral theorem that guide our understanding of them. It is by looking at the exploration of the human experience of the post-contemporary landscape, with specific investigations into interaction and spatiality, that I base my work.
By creating sculptural photographic works, I aim to provide an alternative direction in which to engage with the photographic format and materiality for both maker and observer, whilst utilising the architectural space of the gallery.
These works strive to give a heightened understanding of spatiality as well as interaction from multiplicitous viewpoints in the gallery spaces in which they are seen.
