Artist Statement

“I create art to digest and re-experience the world. The process of selecting and arranging the pieces is a quiet meditation on an often very ordinary moment, a way of falling into the hidden beauty inside the often-missed details of a day. ”

HOW IT'S MADE:
These works are created by adhering hundreds of small hand-painted pieces to a single white cardboard backer. So what I do is, I paint larger sheets of thick/heavy beautifully textured canvas paper and then cut those sheets up into smaller rectangles (I refer to them as "tiles" even though they are made of paper). Then the tiles are adhered into place with permanent archival clear glue. Only the tops of the tiles are attached to the backer, so it has a layered textural look (think shingles, for lack of a better description). I feel like the texture and the depth of the piece draws the viewer into the painting.

INSPIRATION:
I'm inspired by the "in-betweens,” the little moments of pause in a mundane day. I create these pieces as a way of processing and experiencing the world, while remembering to find the hidden beauty that lurks around every corner.

WHAT I HOPE YOU FEEL/THINK WHEN VIEWING MY WORKS:
These works are very specific to me, but still abstract enough that they often trigger similar memories in the viewer. It is my hope that my work washes over you like a poem—that it both informs and delights while creating a sense of rediscovering a memory, a place, or a feeling.

THANK YOU:
I want my collectors to see value in my work and to know that by purchasing my pieces they are making a smart financial investment in an emerging artist.
