Artist Statement
"This artwork is an interpretation of Carl Jung’s statement: “ Whoever goes to himself risks a confrontation with himself”. Once again there is my favourite element – water, echoed by the idea of a mirror appears. The light breaking through the trees in the background is rather harsh – in terms of its brightness and shape. This is a hint that the “confrontation with oneself” may not necessarily be joyful. There are some autobiographical notes in this work. I was creating pretty dark works right before starting my graduation project. Perhaps, it was a period when I wanted to understand myself better and work certain things through."—Varvara Drobina
