Artist Statement
"This series of works was created in Paris at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in the graphic arts workshop. Thanks to the spaciousness of the workshop itself, the possibility of being mobile and the fact that all machines were located nearby I got an opportunity to combine several techniques in one artwork. For instance, in this artwork, I combined offset and lithography. The drawing was done on a lithographic stone, which was then printed on top of a print with various textures. Those artworks are somehow projecting and interrogating events and the atmosphere that surrounded me.
After a trip to Etretat in Normandy, France, I wanted to produce artworks with waves and rocks. That is how this self-portrait in the water was born. It seems to me that in these works I managed to successfully combine two vastly different techniques: classical draftsmanship and photography / texture."—Varvara Drobina
