Artist Statement

"This series of works was created in Paris at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in the graphic arts workshop. Thanks to the spaciousness of the workshop itself, the possibility of being mobile and the fact that all machines were located nearby I got an opportunity to combine several techniques in one artwork. For instance, in this artwork, I combined offset and lithography. The drawing was done on a lithographic stone, which was then printed on top of a print with various textures. Those artworks are somehow projecting and interrogating events and the atmosphere that surrounded me.

After a trip to Etretat in Normandy, France, I wanted to produce artworks with waves and rocks. That is how this self-portrait in the water was born. It seems to me that in these works I managed to successfully combine two vastly different techniques: classical draftsmanship and photography / texture."—Varvara Drobina

This original artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.

Artist Profile

Born: 1996

Hometown: St. Petersburg

Based in: St. Petersburg

Varvara Drobina is a professional artist born and based in St.Petersburg, Russia. She is currently in her final year at the prestigeous Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in St.Petersburg, Russia, where she specializes on the printmaking techniques, illustration and book design.

Filled with countless allusions from various art forms, from cinema to theatre, from poetry to music, Varvara Drobina's artworks are strikingly powerful and have a lasting aftertaste. Decorative without becoming superficial, illustrative without becoming restrictive, they speak at both figurative and abstract levels.

In 2018 she was selected for the exchange programme with Beaux-Arts de Paris, where she studied under the tutelage of Wernher Bouwens and the fresco master Philippe Bennequin.
