Artist Statement

In her pop-art-based series of works, LMD Clique, Vesna Filipovic created geometric iconic characters that seem instantly recognizable, thought-provoking, yet minimal, and fun.

The secret behind her work is in decoding fashion. „There are some iconic figures that through their style managed to be instantly recognizable like Karl Lagerfeld with his powdery-white hair, and Anna Wintour with her bob. We all remember Jean Paul Gaultier’s costumes for Madonna, Bowie’s flaming red hair with Kansai Yamamoto's iconic outfit, Suzy Menkes pompadour hairstyle, and many 90s transformations of Linda Evangelista,“ explains Vesna. „I like to use these references and represent it in an almost gestural manner where ultimately all is geometry, intensified with bold colors and white lines.“

LMD Clique is a tribute to creatives that colored our world, widened our imagination, and whose work influenced cultural transformation in many ways.

„Color composition is very important to me. I like how certain colors interact with each other and have a new dimension in their correlation, and when they are bordered by the white lines they have their own space. The color breathes and tells a story. It’s simple, yet very poetic to me. Its vibrancy is very positive and energetic.“
