Artist Statement

This work is made in pointillism (stippling) technique. This technique requires a lot of patience, preciseness and time. Average time I spend to draw one of the pieces is about 1.5 month of everyday work.
The Venus flytrap is an insect-eater, notwithstanding it seems to be small, delicate and even fragile. This contradiction amazed me. In this drawing I tried to study this unique plant and to show not only its portrait, but also its parts: roots and bloom.

Artist Profile

Born: 1983

Hometown: Omsk, Russia

Based in: Moscow, Russia

Victoria Demidova was born on the 4th of July in 1983 in Omsk, Russia. Since her childhood she was surrounded by art lovers and it was her father who taught her how to see things, behold details and then draw them. Victoria’s father built beautiful fireplace portals, created stunning stained-glass windows and made mosaics and marble monuments for his customers, and she often spent time with him watching him working. Victoria has always been supported by her father to express herself via art, so she used to win all school art contests. Her mother had a great passion for russian ballet, so that influenced on Victoria as well. The path to her own vision and style was not simple and short. After graduating from the Moscow State University of Design and Technology and trying herself as a theatre costumier, as a guide and researcher at the museum, as a designer and even as an art teacher, she finally realized that her inner way is to make casual things beautiful, to make them visible as they are: natural and simple. Victoria’s art is mostly about the glory of nature and man-made beauty - architecture, gardens, fashion. She works in stippling (pointellism) technique and watercolour illumination, and botanical art. Since 2019 Victoria is a member of Russian Botanical Artists Association.
