Artist Statement

Dionysus, the son of Zeus, known as the Olympian god of wine, the inspirer of ecstasy and desire. He is often seen in the company of leopard, whose spots on the skin are also eyes that look directly into the soul.
A series of paintings "Myths" near of kin travel sketches of a happy journey through magical worlds, where the bright sun always shines, and sphinxes, angels and centaurs walk along the golden beaches. They create a new mood in the interior: the details of painting and graphics resonate with the real space, charging it with the solar energy of the artist's imagination. Fantastic images are set off by an academic drawing and colossal artistic erudition of Victoria. Her signature style is a mix of classicism, art deco, pop art and suprematism.

Artist Profile

Hometown: Kerch

Based in: Antalya

Victoria was born in a small town on the coast of the Black Sea, situated among vineyards and gorgeous ruins of ancient Greek and Roman settlements. She graduated from the College of Architecture, but the magical power of painting and graphics has become her passion.

Victoria Fomina’s paintings make viewers want to jump down the rabbit hole with her into a charmingly surreal world of detail and colour, crafted in the artist’s unique style. No detail is too small as she explores new visual metaphors, adding value to the projects she works on.

She works with watercolour, gouache and acrylic – fluid media that allow for great spontaneity. Victoria works for clients around the world as an illustrator (including Gallimard Jeunesse, Penguin Random House, Kingfisher, Rizzoli, Grimm Press, Samsung and Vogue).

She has taken part in exhibitions in Slovakia, Switzerland, Russia, Italy, Japan, Estonia, France, Norway, Germany, United Kingdom, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Poland and Hungary.
