Lives and Works: Qingdao
Wan Liya was one of the earliest artists who has has been involved in Chinese contemporary ceramic art and established his own ceramic studio at the very start of his career. Wan has been involved in many significant ceramic art activities, greatly influencing the progress of the modernization of Chinese ceramic art. His works contain the appropriate combination of ceramic material quality and sculptural language. From 2005, Wan's works have been maturing steadily, following his experimentation with different styles from 1989 to 2005. His works embody the artist's profound consideration about the time-honored tradition of Chinese ceramic art and his mental perception of the intense change in contemporary society.
