Artist Profile
Hometown: Dali, Shaanxi province, China
Based in: Shaanxi
Xing Qing Xin grew up in a family of painters. His father was a professor at the Xi’an Academy of arts, and his brother is a famous Chinese ink painter. He too has established a name for himself in oil painting and now enjoys a well-regarded reputation in Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province, which is also a great cultural centre in China.
Often executed plein-air with lyrical brushwork and skilful palette knife sculpting, Xing Qing Xin is known for his loving portrayals of the tranquil yet luxuriant nature of Chinese countryside. The sensitive mood and technique in his rendering of landscapes under different seasons also reflects his influence by Western greats like Isaac Levitan and Vincent van Gogh. Regionally acclaimed writer Fan Chao describes Xing’s work as ‘paintings {that} make the tired soul happy.’
