"In the "Red Curtain" series, an extensive red plane covers the black and white picture underneath, and becomes a significant element of the overall picture, it causes powerful associations and creates almost aggressive and impactful visual effect.
"Red" has a profound and rich cultural connotation in China. It is related to the concept of life, the state, the solemnity, and the rights. It is also associated with light, with something sacred, beautiful, and magnificent. The curtain suggests a secret, isolation, obscuration, hiding, and the unknown.
The presentation of this visual element may be an intuitive feeling and mapping of my inner heart."

Ye Hongxing (叶红杏) is a Beijing-based artist, born in 1972 in Guangxi Province, China. One of the most relevant and successful stars of the contemporary Chinese art scene, Ye Hongxing was previously selected as one of the top 20 contemporary Chinese artists by the curator of California’s Asia Art Museum and the director of Art Cologne. Working in oil paint, mixed media, sculpture, and installation, Ye’s works have been well-received internationally, especially her montaged sticker works that explode with animals, flora, and figures, or shape meditative Buddhist mandalas. Her works relish a sense of vivid, exquisite chaos, expressing a richness and luxury that combines bright hues with pop culture symbols and traditional motifs. Visually sublime scenes layer oppositions of tranquility and intricate frenzy, incorporating both realism and the visionary.
Ye Hongxing’s unique aesthetic has earned her popular acclaim worldwide. She has collaborated with designer Christian Louboutin and is widely collected by high-profile figures within China. Ye Hongxing has exhibited at galleries and museums throughout China, Europe, and the United States, and has been shown internationally at fairs including Art Cologne, Scope (Basel, New York), PULSE (New York), Art Asia (Miami), Art Stage Singapore, and the India Art Fair (New Delhi), where her installation was labeled one of the fair’s highlights. Notable recent exhibitions include 2014 solos The Fantasy Factory at Art+ Shanghai Gallery (Shanghai) and Ye Hongxing Solo Exhibition at the Lux Art Institute (San Diego, California), where Ye Hongxing completed a month-long artist residency.
