Lives and Works: Korea
I think that many of clay artists in Korea try to succeed to our tradition in more creative and functional way, and at the same time, we strive to develop its design with modern sensibility of our era.
“Cheomjang Technique” stems from Korean traditional “Buncheong” which is almost all about brushstrokes with varying consistencies of slip-engobe. The Gwiyal brush, in other words, Hakeme brush is essential material for the technique. "Cheomjang” technique came out of its process while applying thick slips of varying consistencies with Hakeme brush on the surface.
The outcome of my study and experiments in Cheomjang has been accomplished and completed on my ceramic pieces evoking rustic and simple sentiment toward Korean traditional ceramics.
I have been eager to reinterpret about our tradition within ceramics in my own way of Cheomjang.
