This January, the DSLcollection, with their creative leader Nina Boldyreva, initiates its Asian presence, starting in Singapore with The Artling.
The DSLcollection, created in 2005 by Sylvain and Dominique Levy, is one of the top 5 Chinese Contemporary Art collections in Europe. It is a privately owned art collection representing over 350 of the leading Chinese avant-garde artists, and across all media including paintings, sculptures, installations, and videos. Currently, Karen Levy, daughter for Sylvain And Dominque, will be implenting all new projects.
Founder and CEO Talenia Phua Gajardo says, ”After having launched our custom-built AR feature on our iOS last year, we are extremely excited to continue on this journey of bringing the best of art to as many people as we can via this new VR project. Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality have added completely new dimensions to traditional ways of experiencing art and we will continue to push the technological boundaries to further these explorations. ”
VR is becoming increasingly relevant to all industries. According to Market researcher IDC, they projected “worldwide revenue from AR/VR would grow from $5.2 billion in 2016 to $162 billion by 2020. AR and VR are exhibiting extraordinary capabilities to push past niche spaces like gaming and entertainment to become an essential part in various industries like education, healthcare, manufacturing and customer experience.“
Besides engaging with new users and enchanting viewers with alternative art realities, what this strategic partnership aims to achieve is the creation of multiple perspectives, whilst not limiting expressions to VR alone. Through forging new opportunities for art, storytelling and human connection, it seeks to construct a platform for people to plug into more variations of intellectual entertainment.

A specially curated exhibition of Chinese contemporary art was presented on the 18th and 19th of January at the IM-ARCH ASIA, Asia’s first conference on VR for Architecture and Culture. This virtual reality experience is constituted by an exciting journey of discovery through an interactive guided tour in a futuristic design museum, where visitors are able to ‘fly’ around the larger-than-life artworks from Chinese avant-garde artists. These artists include Jia Aili, Zhang Huan, and Gao Weigang. It additionally spans across an array of media - from painting, sculpture, installation, and video. it even includes a VR art piece by Miao Ying, an artist who fosters the satirical concept of digital detox.
The Artling’s Gallery Director, Kim Tay, will also be present at the upcoming 2nd Immersive Augmented and Virtual Reality World Conference, with this year’s theme being ‘Attaining the next frontier for competitive advantage with the game-changer AR/VR’.
