Beyond Stuff
Constellation, Zhao Zhao, 2013

An exhibition presented by Mizuma Gallery with the support of The Artling

Mizuma Gallery brings the works of renowned Chinese artists Ai Wei Wei, He Yungchang, Li Mingzhu, Xia Xing and Zhao Zhao at their Gillman Barracks home. This exhibition, supported by The Artling, opened last Friday 29 August with a cocktails event. In attendance were Sueo Mizuma, Ryo Wakabayashi of the gallery and artists Li Ming Zhu and Xia Xing.

The exhibition focuses on socio-political commentaries provoked by artworks that seem like ordinary “stuff”. A window crank, a hanger, stills from a media coverage could all be rather ubiquitous until we understand the roles these objects play in communicating the realities of the society from which these artists cultivate their perspectives.

Complementing the exhibition was the launch of The Artling’s partnership with respected publishing company Taschen in the online distribution of Ai Wei Wei a signed monograph about the controversial artist put together by Hans Werner Holzwarth.
