The 12th edition of Turkish art fair Contemporary Istanbul (CI), opens from 14th till 17th September 2017, providing a platform that brings together leading galleries, artists and collectors from all over the world and Turkey. This year sees quite a few revisions to the previous editions, including a collaboration with award-winning architects Tabanlıoğlu Architects.

This year also sees the introduction of The Fifth Element, a sculpture sector to be held at the nearby Sanatçılar Park, which, curated by Professor Hasan Bülent Kahraman, will be the city’s first outdoor contemporary sculpture exhibition. Some of the works that will be on show will feature pieces by artists such as Tony Cragg, Wim Delvoye, Jan Fabre and Jannis Kounellis.

This year's fair aligns itself with the Istandbul Biennial, which runs from 16th September till 12th November 2017, which creates an art week in the capital of Turkey. Galleries from all around the world, including Victoria Miro, Leila Heller, and 55 Bellechasse will have booths at the fair. Additional features include a booths with solo presentations of the work of Middle Eastern artists, making the fair a great opportunity to discover new artists from the region.

Other sectors to look our for include CI Dialogues, which will bring together over 50 creative professionals to discuss the theme 'Movement' under talks entitled 'Movement in Space'. There will also be a follow up publication up to the 'Collectors’ Stories' exhibition last year, entitled 'Collectors’ Stories Book', which will explore the dynamics of taste, the building of collections, and the collectors’ personal and anecdotal motivations.
