Organised by the Taiwan Art Gallery Association, the first KAOHSIUNG TODAY, 24th - 26th June 2016, will feature not only local but international artworks from Japan, China and Singapore of a variety of media. Divided into five main sections: Galleries, Art In Progress, Southern Taiwan Art Groups, Austronesian Art and Art’ccupy, KAOHSIUNG TODAY aims to act as a bridge between Taiwan and the global art scene.
Here’s a little peek at what to expect at this year’s inaugural art fair!
J.P. ART CENTER, a local Kaohsiung gallery will be presenting a solo exhibition of Taiwanese artist, Chihung Yang. His works have been exhibited internationally and KAOHSIUNG TODAY will showcase new works by the artist.
The International Art Fair will also house Yoshiaki Inoue Gallery, Osaka who will be introducing world renowned Japanese art group Gutai that was founded in the 1960s as a movement representing a radical and energetic approach to post-war art.
One can also expect to see works from participating artist, Yamada Masaaki under Kato Art Duo, a gallery located in Raffles Hotel Arcade, Singapore that showcases the finest artworks from Japan, Asia and Europe.
In a bid to express appreciation for pioneering Taiwanese artists, the fair will be including the Southern Taiwan Art Groups where visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the art history of Southern Taiwan. As a city, Kaohsiung is surrounded by mountains, oceans, rivers and ports and the theme of this section therefore picks upon associations with the harbour and the tropical climate.
Other highlights also include public art and emerging artists both locally and internationally.
The KAOHSIUNG TODAY Art Fair is definitely an event not to be missed this June and tickets are still available here!
