The Artling Team Picks for the Holidays

As we hurtle towards the holidays at breakneck speed, the inevitable panic of gift shopping hits us like a ton of bricks and it’s getting progressively more crowded in the department stores as people start ticking off their ‘to buy’ lists.

This season, we’ve polled The Artling office to see what everyone will be getting for some of their loved ones. From practical to indulgent, check out what’s on our holiday shopping lists!

Talenia Phua Gajardo, Head Art Hunter & CEO

It’s been a VERY big year for The Artling, having completed our first big round of fundraising at the beginning of the year and acquiring Artshare, our friends based in Hong Kong. With this growth, we’ve been busy expanding our team and focusing on developing the platform further within the South East Asian region and most recently, China. As such, having everything organised is so important to me and a clean desk is absolutely essential! Hence, I’ve gotten this Desk Unit from Saccal Design House for myself because I’ve just got too many things on my desk and I like to simplify wherever possible - an early Christmas gift to myself!

Desk Unit by Saccal Design House
Edition of 1 / Stone / 1.5cm x 34cm x 8.7 / 0.6" x 13.4" x 3.4" / US$ 120
Available on The Artling.com!

I’ll also be picking up this Arche Vase by Izmir-based product designer Emre Yunus Uzun exlcusively available on The Artling for my mum this year because she’s into clean, edgy design and greenery. It would be a really great way for her to showcase her plants within the beautiful curved lines of the vase. It’s a tough choice between the gold and the dark grey brushed metal versions as they both look so amazing!

Arche Vase by Emre Yunus Uzun
Limited Edition / Metal / 30.0cm x 10.0cm / 11.8" x 3.9" / US$ 1,900
Available on The Artling.com!

I’m looking to pick up one of these multi-perspective photomontages by Thai artist Pariwat Anantachina for my sister-in-law who lives in Thailand. We visited Pariwat’s studio together, so this work will be a great way to remember that lovely day we spent together. My first art purchase was also a work by Pariwat and I still love looking at it every day - I’m hoping she will feel the same about this work!

Made in Hong Kong #1 by Pariwat Anantachina
Edition of 25 / Digital Photo Collage Giclée Print on Canvas Satin / 90.0cm x 135.0cm / 35.4" x 53.0"  / US$ 900

Available on The Artling.com!

Another family member getting a lovely piece of art this holiday is my Aunt Susi. My aunt is very into Buddhism and has a super cozy home with lots of little Buddha statues and dark wood furniture. This work, Amitabha Buddha by Takashi Murakami from his “Ensō” series would look perfect in her home, as it features the Enso motif that comes from Japanese Zen Buddhism, symbolising emptiness, unity and infinity.

Amitabha Buddha by Takashi Murakami
Edition of 300 / Offset lithograph with cold foil stamp and high gloss varnishing on UV paper / 68cm x 68cm / 26.8" x 26.8"  / US$ 1,660

One of my friends has just moved into a new home and I’ve been looking for something that is both functional and beautiful, which she can use for years to come. This hand-thrown porcelain dish by Aor Sutthiprapha comes in three beautiful shades of blue and can be used in a variety of ways, such as a catch-all for keys and coins or a fruit bowl on a coffee table! Deciding which shade is going to be tough though…

Weaving Indigo by Aor Sutthiprapha
Unique Work / Hand-thrown porcelain and colored porcelain decoration / 5cm x 14cm x 5 / 2.0" x 5.5" x 2.0" / US$ 255

When I saw Snow Landscape from Biei 2 by Chinnaphong Mungsiri, I immediately thought this would be an ideal gift for my brother. It’s a great way for him to add more art to his life, and serve as a reminder to chill out.

My husband travels a lot for work and I wanted something to remind him to “stop and smell the roses” amidst the busy working life. This beautiful piece from Indian artist Aryaman Dixit’s “Landscapes in a cup” series of distant faraway places digitally imposed in coffee cups is a way to remember that the world is so big and we are but an individual within it. Also, coffee please.

Landscapes in a cup - 4 by Aryaman Dixit
Editioned Work / Digital Print on Enhanced Matte Paper (192 gsm) / Two Sizes / From US$ 300

Available on The Artling.com!

I just moved into a new home and have been looking for a piece for one of my walls. I think I’ve found it in this work “When the Colors Mix” by So Pyay Win. This abstract work complements my current minimalistic and monochrome-theme interior, adding a pop of colour! Since this is technically for the home, it doesn’t count as a gift to myself right?

When the Colors Mix by So Pyay Win
Unique Work / Acrylic on Canvas / 45.7cm x 45.7cm / 18.0" x 18.0" / US$ 500

Available on The Artling.com!

I’m a total advocate of starting children young when it comes to art, so I always try to integrate art into my son’s life. I’m sure he would love this “Lumping - rocking horse” by alvinT made of this graphic woven rattan. Furthermore, it’s an edition of 1, making it a unique piece that no other kid would have!

Lumping - rocking horse by alvinT
