Foshan, China, with its world's largest and most mature ceramic industry chain and clusters of construction ceramics factories, is home to 1/8 of the global annual construction ceramics output and food and represents the subsistence of 10 million Chinese. At the same time, it has to bear the environmental pollution brought about by 4 million tons of ceramic waste per year.
All ceramic waste will eventually be transferred to remote villages, where it is used to fill ponds or dumped illegally; not only the cost of disposal is high, but the non-degradable materials can also not be digested by nature, hence occupy the land, affect the growth of vegetation, and even pollute the water on which our survival is relied.
Terrazzo Collection- a material regeneration experiment using wasted tiles to make terrazzo， so that the waste materials could be put back into use on general public level in the form of derivative industries, and become everyday furniture that can be produced in a large scale.
Setting out on the 4 million tons of tiles and blending the materials regeneration into day-to-day lives, it is not only a bold attempt to stimulate the commercial value and a practice of merging the idea of environmental protection into our daily lives, but also the basic adherence to and pursuit of one’s dignity.
The change of the way of placing porcelain aggregate improves the utilization of porcelain wastes and production speed; the grid structure on the bottom intensifies the details and reduces the overall weight, while the addition of high-performance concrete ensures that the panel is still tough even when it’s as thin as 5mm.

Lives and Works: Guangzhou
Bentu is an independent design brand founded in 2011. We're engaged in product design and innovation, combining design with manufacture. We're an experimental, explorative, and cross-over team. Based on our design, we make products that meet our daily need. Through a series of experiments and exploration, we make each material return to its nature by revealing its original texture.
In innate character, Bentu reverts to demand, close to indigenous culture; in outer form, the so-called international design is, free from all the unnecessary, pursuing unrestrained styles and returning to the emphasis on function.
Hiding behind the form and the function is the equal care for all—all the raw materials, techniques and cultures that make up things. There is no disparity between nobleness and lowliness, costliness and cheapness, and treasures and trashes. Devoting oneself to design will make the mud as priceless as the diamond. Everything asked for from the world should be cherished. There is no the best, but only the fittest. Either a straw or a handful of mud will glow if designed.
BENTU focused on the R&D, design, production, sales and promotion of products. Our products cover lighting, home furnishing, outdoor furniture, wall decors and so on. Bentu’s products are able to meet the international standards, every single accessory is original design and of high quality. Most of the products are already certified to CE, ROHS2.0, SAA, C-TICK, FCC and IC. We have our own IPR and more than 100 patents. Meanwhile, we endeavor to establish the international image, and work with international media like Designdaily.. as media partner.
