What would happen if the machines stopped? If our production systems stopped?
Inert Lamp consists of a blue ceramic gear, glass neon tubes, acrylic elements and aluminum structure that grow around them. Considering the impact on things when the production and the life rhythm have to slow down, as in our current pandemic situation, the idea of this project was to investigate the manufacturing process and to mix techniques and materials in an endless production line. As if this object were machine that would have stop inexplicably, as if this machine were object itself. Exploring the tensions and relations between techniques and aesthetics in mass production and craft manufacturing, ‘Inert domestic system’ demonstrate that artisanal and industrial manufacturing are less at odds with each other than is commonly perceived, disrupting pre- conceptions about how things are made and used. It is a contemplation of what surrounds us, of what truly inhabits our domestic spaces.
The inertia of machines, the hidden face of object.

Artist Profile

Born: 1991

Hometown: Paris

Based in: Paris

Graduated with a Master degree from Beaux-Arts de Paris, and from the Master Contextual Design in Design Academy Eindhoven,
Célestine Peuchot is a French designer. Her practice explores both spaces and objects. The know-how in her creations engages in a dialogue with artisanal and digital production techniques. She develops her formal aesthetic through a constant search for materials and the links they create in our daily spaces. The results are fictional domestic scenarios where design and art combine to challenge our habits of tomorrow.
