Artist Statement
I wanted to design a unique yet fully practical table, but It is so difficult to find a new, undiscovered shape for a table – the pice of furniture that is probably as old as human civilization..
In order to not copy existing design and idea I decided that the right shape have to inspired from the world of nature. throughout various natural wonders finally I have found inspecting closer the phenomena of volcanic lakes – I still think that they are one of the most beautiful places, almost surreal.
Finally the right shape appeared in the cross-section of caldera – the massive depression on the surface in the place where the volcano collapsed after the strong eruption .
To lighten up and add some irregularity to the very simple and monolithic shape I added holes that are going vertically in a straight line, and leaving some of them visible on a table top.
