Artist Statement
MYDNA is a chic and contemporary storage system inspired by the DNA concept: both by its sophisticated double helix shape, and by the metaphorical statement that everything you place on it defines a significant part of your personal identity. MYDNA Bookcase is part of MYDNA collection designed by Joel Escalona and its fabricated in Mexico City in plywood and heavy-duty fibers.
Founded in 2011 by Joel Escalona, nono creates products that represent the modern minded, luxury consumer. Aspiring to set the tone in a global conversation, each design has a powerful voice with a clear statement of honesty, modernity and beauty.
Joel, one of the most prolific and multidisciplinary designers of his generation, has worked on a set of projects ranging from product design, furniture and jewelry, to consulting, creative direction and collectible design pieces for galleries. His work has been exhibited in the most important capitals of the world in the most relevant events in the design and art world, like the Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano and Design Miami/Basel.
Joel’s work translates to much more than an extensive portfolio: it’s the materialization of the world that surrounds him, a reflection of himself.

Based in: Mexico City
Mexican designer Joel Escalona was born in Mexico City in 1986, and holds an Industrial Design degree from UAM-A. In 2014 he founded his own design studio in Mexico City, which he still runs.
