Artist Statement

I studied the form of the chair, which has a long history from the viewpoint of art history, and designed the shape of the chair in contemporary times.
In modern times, even chairs can be mass-produced like consumables, and the production methods have become diverse due to various materials such as assembly type and integrated type. In such a relationship, I focused on the method of joining members such as seats and legs to make a chair. Depending on the joining method, the possible form of the material is tested, and the way it breaks and its life are determined.
Most things are now standardized and can be easily obtained at home improvement stores. So I sought a chair shape that would give the maximum performance for the minimum parts, using joining methods and unique features that are only possible with such easily available materials.
Taking advantage of the moderate flexibility of PVC tubes and the characteristics of the pipe shape, we designed a product that can be used as a chair by applying the necessary processing to the wood on the seat and back, and assembling it without using adhesives or screws.
