Name: Black Star
Object type: Vessel
The base idea for this design is to transform Wood that has no special grain or color like alder into something unusual to the eye and additionally achieving an interesting haptic feeling. The design is implemented by employing the craft of woodturning for forming and hollowing the outside and inside of the object. Afterwards drilling and forming the holes, adding color stain and using a pyrographic pen further work is put into the piece. Finally the object is charred black to gain a soft and warm touch as well as adding a color contrast.
Earlier this year I made a wall sculpture in wood that had some holes with stars and I saw some ceramic vessel that had many dots on it. I imagined what would happen if I put these 2 elements into one wood-turned piece.
