Throughout the process of my ceramic making, the beauty of contour is significant to me. Therefore, all my works have a moderate tone in order to emphasize the contour.
So as this work, I focused on both balancing the shape as well as creating a curving beauty. Although keeping a good balance in everything in our life is not easy, it is still worthy of attention for me at the same time.

Nozomi Fujii was born in 1976 in Mie Prefecture, Japan. During her childhood, she was obsessed with the idea of creating things by her own as well as the systematic process of making , which eventually became the source of her creative ceramic artworks.
She graduated from Shizuoka University Faculty of Agriculture Department of Forest Resource Science in 1999. The technical methods of research she learnt in the university also constructed her current style of ceramic creation.
She studied ceramic art at Tokoname City Municipal Ceramic Art Laboratory for one year. She has participated in domestic solo & group exhibitions since 2009.
In 2020, she was invited to 1000 VASES in Paris.
What makes Nozomi focused on using pottery wheels in her works, is the absolute limitation given by its concentrical movement, which only allows her to shape clays symmetrical.
In order to bring out natural colors as well as a character of original texture from clays themselves, she does not use glaze. By doing so, the artist can extract the primitive sense of non-materialistic ancient times, and visualize them in a modern style.
