Inspired by the beauty of wave formations in nature –The sand dunes of deserts and the ripples of sea waves. The traditional craft techniques were inadequate to achieve this exquisite damascening inlay work of lines in poetry, so this Handcrafted series is none like other we have done, it required some special tooling to help the Artisan achieve the perfect poetry. The Brilliant shine of Pure Silver and Copper lines against the charcoal black oxidized Bidri alloy is mesmerizing in light.
Bidriware, an art form that has its roots in Persian, Turkish and Arabic Metal Arts, originated 700 years ago in Bidar with the explorations of a Persian Alchemist, Abdullah Bin Qaiser who started the metal craft when he came to work for the Bahmani Sultans in the Deccan region of India.
It is a damascening craft with the base as Bidriware Alloy (Copper and zinc 16:1) on which inlay work is done in silver, gold or copper and then the oxidizing process is done with a unique and rare mud found only in the unlit areas of Bidar fort (India) which renders the deep black oxidation to the alloy leaving the inlayed metals unaffected.
With the finite amount of Mud that is available, the craft is gaining new found interest among collectors around the world as there is fear of it dying out.
The Bidriware pieces are in the collections of Louvre, V&A and The Met among other museums and private collections. Often exchanging hands for tens of thousands of Pounds among private collectors.
The Bidriware Mirage series took over two years of development and planning, meticulously crafted by the skilled craftsmen, there are only two people who can do this a father and son duo. This marks an update in the 700 year old tradition. We hope to give the craft a new lease of life in this ‘Modern’ world.

Saif represents a new breed of bold Contemporary Indian designers. He completed his training as an Architect from RV School of Architecture in 2010-11, alongside he was designing and participating in Formula SAE-Racing with the Mechanical engineering students at the college, where he acquired the diverse experience in design, manufacturing and technical know-how. After college he went on to learn wood working. These diverse formative explorations gave him a polymathic learning experience.
His work draws heavily from his understanding of Anthropology, Processes and Technology. The deep appreciation he cultivated of ‘Essentialism’ from racing is revisited in his Design and Architecture. From a very young age he been drawing and making things with whatever he could lay his hands on. With his fascination for geometry, his design is characterized by strong shapes, that render a certain formal rigor to visual and functional attributes.
He is involved in guest lecturers and talks at design and architecture schools. Advises Businesses, Organizations and Institutions. Apart from being an avid motorcyclist and an aficionado of cafe racers, is into boxing and pursues his culinary interests rather seriously.
He has vested interest in Sociology, Philosophy and Cultural -Anthropology, which is very integral to his creative explorations.
