Artist Statement

Low tables inspired by the philosophy of the Danish sculptor Sonja Ferlov Mancoba. Handcrafted clay bases with rough edges, tabletop in smoked glass.

“What really matters is not the sculptures, but the spirit of fellowship which one tries to express. The value of the pieces lies in the moment when they have a direct bearing on life, when they help us to see more clearly, give us heart, help us to get to grips with life. But the pieces are not life. They are a reflection of life”. Sonja Ferlov Mancoba (1911-1984).

Please note that the bases of the tables are handcrafted and variations may occur. Tables can be custom made in other sizes and colours then stated. All works are handcrafted in Barcelona and signed by the designer.

*This piece is made to order. Lead time is approximately 5 weeks.

Artist Profile

Born: 1985

Hometown: Linköping

Based in: Barcelona

Sanna Völker is a designer of objects and furniture who works in the interface between Scandinavia and Spain. Her work can be described as a search for equilibrium between rawness and refinement, harmony and intrigue. Her designs often draw references to architecture and brutalism, manifested in furniture and objects of pure shapes.
Human intervention in nature and society is a theme that she often explores in detail, paired with the problematic of our over-consumption and environmental issues. Intrigued by craft and how traditional materials or techniques can be transformed into a contemporary piece she collaborates with local craftspeople, both for her self-produced pieces and commissioned works.
