The asanoha pattern is an abstract, geometric representation of over-lapping hemp leaves. Hemp is a traditional agriculture product in Japan and were used to make commodities such a paper, ropes, clothing and baskets in the past. As a durable and fast-growing plant, the pattern is associated with ideas of growth and health.
The idea first came about as a heirloom gift for a child, as the choice of the asanoha pattern on a keepsake box is meant to explore the idea of wishing the child good health and growth. However, it can also be used for storing jewelry, watches or other precious, beloved items.

The Secret Life of Trees was born out of a desire to breathe a second life into trees that have been cut down (for a variety of reasons).
Trees have always held a special place in my heart. They literally give us life by providing oxygen through photosynthesis; and yet, humans have taken to plundering much of the natural forests and jungles in which magnificent trees reside.
Using only timber that has been either sustainably sourced or salvaged from being turned into chipboard, the Secret Life of Trees aims to push the boundaries of this material to develop products that marry form with function, using techniques that ensure that the pieces will last lifetimes living in the homes of people, beyond its initial life as a tree amongst other trees.
All pieces are made and shaped by hand and designed with heart in Singapore.
