The Pulp collection by New York–based Serra Studio arose from a series of experiments testing the structural integrity of recycled paper pulp as a medium. The collection references the largely forgotten history of paper as a building material for items such as furniture or boats. The paper pulp is made mostly from recycled natural material, yet it has similar structural characteristics to fiberglass. Using a combination of inflatable molds to achieve compound curvature and embedded wood to support flat surfaces, Serra crafts functional, monolithic forms. The finished surface has a stonelike surface that accepts dyes similarly to the way conventional paper would. Polyurethane finish.
Available in white ($2750) or custom dyed color ($3150).
