Born: 1968
Hometown: Prüm
Based in: Prüm/Eifel
Stephan Schmitz was born in 1968 in Remagen Germany. From there he moved with his parents to Koblenz, where he lived for 10 years. Then he moved to the Eifel where he still lives today.
In the Eifel he made an apprenticeship as a carpenter in a small family business. Besides his professional activity he was always busy creating and building things out of wood. Convinced that old wood and construction timber is not a waste product, he has used these materials to create furniture. In order to broaden his horizon in the imagination of his artistically designed works, he began to integrate the materials concrete and metal into his works. Since then he has created extraordinary works which reflect the spirit of our society in space and thought.
