Lives and Works: Malmö, Sweden
Kunsik Choi is a Korean-born independent designer. He studied industrial product design (BA) at Politecnico di Milano University, Italy. After graduating in 2010, he developed his projects in various design fields such as furniture, installation and fashion show stage design collaborating with significant Korean companies.
He journeyed again in 2012 to Sweden to learn traditional cabinetry and was trained as a cabinet maker for 3 years at Capellagården under the Swedish master makers. He accomplished his Swedish cabinet making journeyman exam (Gesällprov) in 2015 and at the same year, he has started an independent studio based in Malmö (Sweden).
Kunsik got a 1st place prize in Muuto Talent Awards 2015 with his design ‘Mirrored Mirror’. The year after, he was nominated a ‘designer of the month’ from Form / Design Center in Sweden.
His gesäll-work ‘Facet’ was first shown at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2016. It was introduced as a highlight of the fair in Wallpaper, Milkdecoration, Yatzer magazine. Facet got a favourable comments on converting traditional furniture making method into abstract contemporary design.
