Rik van Veen is an independent, self-producing designer based in Rotterdam. He's a trained mechanical engineer and studied product design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, where he graduated in 2014. After some years of developing products for others, Rik opened his own studio in 2021.

What inspires you?
I'm fascinated by the visual strenght of patterns and geometry. It's amazing what can be made with just a few basic shapes.
Describe your creative process.
At the moment I like to start my creative process with the waste materials that I find. This approach is moving my designs in a surprising new direction.
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
The plastic welding equipment I use in most of my designs.
